Too many subspecies having been found to be practically indistinguishable from their relatives, a drastic taxonomic revision has become necessary. In order to make a valuable statement, each statis, as well as their fundamental characters, are herein clearly defined. Explanations are also given concerning gradual changes in wing patterns throughout Triudes, Trogonoptera and Ornithoptera and its subgenera. All in all, 29 subspecies are downgraded to local forms.
