Since 1989, malacological investigations were carried out in 16 Caribbean islands: Hispaniola/Dominican Republic with Isla Saona and Cuba with Cayo Largo (Greater Antilles); Montserrat, Guadeloupe, °Iles-desSaintes/Terre-de-Haut, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Canouan, Carriacou, Grenada and Trinidad with Tobago (Lesser Antilles). About 180 species of terrestrial and freshwater Mollusca were collected in a great variety of habitats: Xero- to mesophile and rain forests, mesophile and cultivated open areas, wasteland, disturbed habitats, wetlands, mangroves, rivers, ponds, canals. This book was not written with the intention of providing a comprehensive scientific revision of the malacofauna, but rather sees itself as a travelogue with a malacological focus.
