Description The microcaddisfly genus Leucotrichia (Trichoptera, Hydroptilidae) is endemic to the New World and species diversity is greatest in Central and northern South America. The small adults of many of the species have large green patches of hairs on the wings and crawl actively on streamside vegetation during the day. The aquatic larvae live in flattened cases fixed to the substrate and graze on periphyton. This monograph A Revision of the Neotropical Caddisfly Genus Leucotrichia Mosely, 1934 (Hydroptilidae, Leucotrichiinae) treats the 30 previously known species in the genus and 13 new species from Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, and Venezuela. Important diagnostic morphological characters of the head and male genitalia are described and illustrated for all 43 species. A generic diagnosis, known distributions for all species, and a key to males of all species are provided. This paper provides new information on a previously poorly known group of insects in one of the world’s most biologically diverse regions.
